There are legal requirements for employers to provide safe systems of work that are, so far as is reasonably practicable, safe and without risks to the health of employees and others such as members of the public who may be affected by the work.

For some of the high-risk jobs where there is an increased risk of serious injury, permits to work can be used to mitigate the risk. Our Permit to Work (PTW) document has a bespoke health & safety checklist to be completed before a given task. The document include individual work permits for the following activities.

  • Hot Works: Applicable to Cutting, Welding, Grinding, Soldering, Brazing, Blow Lamp or Blow Torches, or the use of any equipment producing Heat, Sparks or Naked Flame.
  • Work at Height: Applicable for anyone working on Scaffolding, Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP), Cherry Pickers, Scissor Lift, Mobile Towers, Ladders, Roofs and Window Cleaners.
  • Electrical Work: Applicable to work on and near all HV Electrical Systems.
  • Confined Space: Applicable to all work completed in confined space. Work in a space of an enclosed nature where there is a risk of death or serious injury from hazardous substances or dangerous conditions (e.g. lack of oxygen).
  • General: Work by Contractors on Site. Note: Use the specific Hot Work Permit, Electrical Work Permit, Work at Height Permit or Confined Space Work Permit for those specific activities.

The Permit to Work document is established to ensure that potentially hazardous routine and non-routine activities in an organisation are carried out under safe conditions. This form will define a specific work which will be carried out in a specified time frame.

An organisation should ensure to provide a safety work environment for everybody on site and by using this form, every job where there is an increased risk of serious injury, is recorded and controlled.

Using permit to work documents is one of the key elements within an ISO 45001 certified Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS) and this document was developed meet legal requirements, as well as the ones outlined in ISO 45001. This document will help you to manage the activities within your organisation in a safe manner.

If you consider purchasing our Permit to Work (PTW) form, you might also be interested in our Accident Report Form, Vehicle Inspection Checklist and Site Safety Inspection Checklist.

This document can be purchased individually or as part of a package. If you are implementing a management system based on one or more of the main ISO standards, then our management system packages might be more cost effective.

Our standard management system packages cover a combination of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001 and ISO 45001. However, additional standards can easily be included if needed.
